In Western Canada’s evolving plastics circular economy, Full Circle Plastics is proving that recycled materials can do more than just divert waste — they can outperform conventional products in some of the most demanding industrial environments.

Founded on the principles of innovation, integrity, teamwork, and strong relationships, Full Circle Plastics has built its business around one clear goal: to create durable, high-performance products while serving as a reliable end market for recycled plastics.

“Our mission is to lead the industry in developing solutions for our customers while at the same time operating as a consistent end market for recycled plastics in Western Canada,” says Jonathan Beekman, owner of Full Circle Plastics.

“Everything we do is rooted in innovation, hard work, and long-term relationships.”

Turning Recycled Plastics into Industrial‑Grade Solutions

At the core of Full Circle Plastics’ operations is the use of recycled materials — primarily 100% high‑density polyethylene (HDPE), with limited use of polypropylene and mixed post-consumer plastics in select applications. All feedstock is processed and sourced from Canadian recyclers and manufacturers, reinforcing the company’s commitment to keeping materials in circulation domestically.

Full Circle Plastics offers a range of services, including plastic lumber manufacturing and sales,  lumber processing and assembly, and toll manufacturing using customer-supplied feedstock. This flexibility allows the company to support both standardized and customized solutions across industrial and commercial sectors.

“By manufacturing high-value products from locally sourced recycled plastics, we’re offering the industry a meaningful way to participate in the circular economy,” Jonathan says.

Community Engagement and Industry Collaboration

Beyond manufacturing, Full Circle Plastics engages  in its local and provincial community. Through memberships with organizations such as the Alberta Plastics Recycling Association (APRA) and the Recycling Council of Alberta, the company  is involved in  policy discussions, industry collaboration, and public awareness.

Full Circle Plastics has participated in awareness and demonstration projects across Alberta, partnering with organizations including Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA), APRA, and the former Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA). These initiatives have reached more than 30 communities, as well as high-profile sites such as Ellis Bird Farm and projects within the City of Red Deer.

Locally, in the Lethbridge and southern-Alberta community, Full Circle Plastics products have also been used to support fundraising efforts through silent auctions, benefiting schools, non-profits, fire and emergency services, and community organizations.

“Building strong relationships — with communities, industry partners, and organizations like APRA — is one of the most valuable parts of our work,” Jonathan notes. “Those connections help us move the entire system forward.”

The Value of APRA Membership

For Full Circle Plastics, APRA membership plays a key role in strengthening those relationships.

“The connections and relationships are what we value most,” Jonathan says. “Being part of APRA allows us to collaborate across the value chain and better support the recycling industry that we rely on.”

BASELINE: Designed for Strength, Built for Circularity

Looking ahead, Full Circle Plastics is focused on expanding its BASELINE products, which include a line of durable, industrial products designed specifically for applications where conventional materials fall short.

BASELINE includes access matting, pipeline sleepers, and dump truck sideboards. These items are manufactured using 100% HDPE and engineered to meet stringent strength and lifecycle requirements.

“BASELINE was developed to give our customers confidence that recycled plastic products can not only compete with traditional materials, but outperform them,” Jonathan explains.

One of the company’s largest projects to date utilized 1.2 million kilograms of recycled plastic in the oil and gas sector. The products were designed for a project  timeline three times longer than conventional wood products.  It is the expectation that at the time that project is completed in 15 years, the products will be ready for reuse.

“With or without refurbishment, our goal is for these products to have an indefinite lifespan,” the Jonathan says.

Scaling Capacity and Strengthening Local Markets

Over the next three to five years, Full Circle Plastics plans to expand production, building on years of research, development, and investment in new systems and capacity. The company’s current facility can process just over six million kilograms annually, with room for further expansion.

A key priority is continuing to serve as a consistent, local end market for recycled HDPE in Western Canada while strengthening partnerships with Canadian recyclers and manufacturers.

“Long‑term stability allows our customers to invest in solutions where lifecycle costing makes sense,” Jonathan explains. “When lifecycle performance becomes a key purchasing factor, the opportunity for recycled plastic products grows exponentially.”

Opportunities and Challenges in the Circular Economy

While Full Circle Plastics sees significant opportunity in the circular economy, the company is also candid about the challenges. Reliance on recycled feedstock means that market fluctuations and policy changes can directly impact operations.

“Any change — whether market‑induced or politically induced — can affect feedstock availability or end markets,” Jonathan notes. “That’s why it’s so important for us to be a reliable partner to the recycling industry.”

In recent years, Full Circle Plastics has shifted from exporting approximately 80% of its products to the U.S. to selling more than 80% within Western Canada — a transition that reflects both market growth and a deliberate strategy to strengthen local circularity.

“Our goal is stable growth across energy, environmental, and recycling sectors,” Jonathan says. “By being consistent for our suppliers and customers, we help build confidence in recycled plastic solutions.”

Building a Circular Future

As demand grows for durable, low‑impact materials, Full Circle Plastics is positioning itself at the intersection of performance and sustainability. By pairing industrial‑grade engineering with locally sourced recycled plastics, the company is demonstrating that circular solutions can meet — and exceed — today’s toughest requirements.

“We believe recycled plastics can be part of the solution for decades to come,” Jonathan says. “When products are designed to last, to be reused, and ultimately reprocessed, that’s when circularity truly comes full circle.”
